Functional Performance Engineer – Tool optimization

About the role

The Functional Validation & Performance team plays a pivotal role in the development and optimization of automotive systems. As part of the e-DCT transmission development team, you will work with state-of-the-art tools and methodologies to develop and optimize internal tools aimed at increasing the efficiency of calibration activities. Your primary focus will be on developing scripts for data analytics, data mining, and automation to enhance the efficiency of transmission control unit (TCU) software validation and calibration.

In this role, your responsibilities include developing Python-based tools to streamline and enhance data analysis workflows, supporting the team by exploring automation opportunities, and implementing data processing techniques to extract meaningful insights from collected vehicle and bench test data. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to support continuous product improvement, validate system performance, and contribute to the efficiency of software calibration activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize Python-based tools to improve calibration workflow efficiency.
  • Create scripts for data analytics and data mining to extract insights from TCU data.
  • Automate data processing tasks to improve accuracy and reduce manual effort.
  • Support the Functional Validation & Performance team with tool improvements to enhance productivity.
  • Assist in validating control strategies through data-driven analysis and scripting.
  • Collaborate with different disciplines to integrate tool improvements into workflows.
  • Interact with customers, service providers, and teammates to optimize tool usage and implementation.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a strong interest in automotive applications.
  • Proficiency in Python programming, with experience in scripting for data processing and analytics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a goal-oriented mindset.
  • Knowledge of powertrain dynamics and automotive systems is an asset.
  • Proficient in clear and effective communication in both written and spoken English, with the ability to articulate and report results comprehensively.
  • Experience with data analytics tools and techniques is a plus.
  • Experience with calibration tools/data acquisition systems (e.g., Vector Canape, ETAS INCA) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of block diagrams and Matlab/Simulink is a plus.
  • Experience with AVL DRIVE, AVL CAMEO, AVL SPA, or AVL CRETA is a plus.
