Embedded Systems Architect

About the role

The Embedded Systems Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing the architecture of embedded systems in our eDCT product to ensure system performance, scalability, and alignment with overall product and organizational goals. This role serves as a technical authority, collaborating across engineering disciplines to deliver innovative, reliable, and high-performance solutions tailored to meet the specific requirements of our customers. By combining technical leadership with strategic vision, this role drives innovation, system excellence, and customer satisfaction. You will report within Embedded Engineering on functional axis, while reporting to the Systems team within the relevant projects.

Responsibilities

  1. System Architecture Design:
    • Develop and define the overarching architecture for embedded systems, including hardware, software, and integration layers.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company guidelines for safety, performance, and security.
  2. Technical Leadership:
    • Act as the technical lead and authority for embedded systems, guiding development teams and fostering innovation.
    • Provide mentorship and technical direction to engineers, ensuring architectural consistency across projects.
  3. Requirements Management:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, mechanical, and testing) to gather, analyze, and document system requirements.
    • Translate customer and stakeholder needs into actionable architectural solutions.
  4. System Optimization:
    • Analyze and improve system performance, resource utilization, and reliability.
    • Drive system-level trade-offs and optimizations to achieve a balance between performance, cost, and time-to-market.
  5. Integration and Validation:
    • Oversee the integration of embedded systems components and ensure seamless interaction across hardware and software.
    • Support system validation, debugging, and troubleshooting during development and deployment phases.
  6. Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders, including OEM customers, suppliers, and development partners.
    • Provide technical insights and support during customer discussions and audits.
  7. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Create and maintain architecture documentation, ensuring traceability and clarity for all stakeholders.
    • Ensure adherence to functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262) and cybersecurity guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems development, with at least 3 years in a systems architecture role.
  • Deep knowledge of embedded systems design, including real-time operating systems, microcontrollers, and communication protocols.
  • Proficiency in functional safety and cybersecurity standards (e.g., ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434).
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to manage complexity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on long-term system scalability and sustainability.
  • Experience in automotive e-transmissions or electrified drivetrains.
  • Familiarity with Agile and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
